“No Sweetie, this is for Good Girls.”
I have the original iphone and am quite content to stay basic when it comes to technology. But when it comes to food I like upgrades. If you like the ideas of all the cooler stuff on the latest ipads and phones, – you may not want to miss out on these recent health pepping tweaks to GGMS either. This latest version is a monster immune system builder!
The original Good Girl Moonshine is quick and simple and I still fall back on it from time to time. But Generation 2 puts an even gustier wind under my sails. It is not for the faint of taste. It makes me feel like singing operatic notes at the top of my lungs while doing a giant karate kick. You totally have to make some sort of noise after taking a GGMS G2 sip. (Have to love this code language we THM’s are now all speaking.)
I make a gallon and take it to whatever luncheon or party I am invited too. Lately it seems I am a popular person – must be the drink I bring. It is always drained to the very last drop. Actually I make a gallon for me and my little sippers every day and we guzzle it all down just by ourselves!
But I’m going to start you off here in smaller fashion. The following recipe makes one quart. Double or quadruple as you want.
You’ll need, ginger root * ginger powder * water * ice * cilantro * jalapeno or thai pepper * plan approved sweetener (I use nustevia pure extract powder) * vitamin C tablets * apple cider vinegar
1.Put 2 cups of water in a blender.
2.Add 1 – 2 inch long pieces of raw ginger to the blender.
3.Add 1/2 tsp. of ginger powder to the blender (the fresh ginger root and the ginger powder are great together – the fresh root gives a bite while the powder rounds out the ginger flavor).
4.Add 1 or 2, unsweetened 1000 mg vitamin C tablets. (This is optional but it really makes more of a zingyish taste and is awesome for your immune system).
5.Add 1 small fresh hot Thai pepper or half a jalapeno pepper. Add less if heat frightens you, start with a very small amount but if you are a pepper freak like me, add half a bright orange habanero and get your metabolism really stoking. (This pepper addition is again optional but it really gives the ginger a kick and sets your metabolism on fire.)
6.To get the gorgeous green color you see in the picture, add a large handful of fresh cilantro leaves.
7.Blend on high until all ingredients are well broken down. If you have a Blend-Tech or a Vita-Mix this process will be a snap but it can still work with a cheaper blender, you’ll just have to be more patient.
8.Rest a super fine sieve over a quart jar or other suitable receptacle. Strain the liquid through the sieve using a spoon to help until all the goodness goes in. Only the fiber will be left in the sieve.
9.Now add about 2 Tbs. of apple cider vinegar to the jar (I use the raw kind that contains the mother.)
10.Shake in Nustevia pure extract powder to taste.
11.Add plenty of ice to fill up the jar to the top then give the drink a good hearty stir with a large spoon.
To end this post, here are some reasons to add the power packed cilantro. It is rich in antioxidant poly phenolic flavonoids, essential volatile oils. folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin A and vitamin C. It is the richest herbal source of vitamin k which plays a role in bone mass building. Vitamin k is an established aid for the treatment of Alzheimer’s by limiting neuronal damage in the brain. Cilantro also fights anemia with its high amounts of the minerals iron and magnesium. Other minerals such as potassium, calcium and manganese are also present.
Time of month a real downer? Cilantro eases monthly hormonal mood swings and may help with menstrual cramping. Apple cider vinegar helps to lessen bleeding so the combination of the two are perfect for this issue. Cilantro also has bacteria killing agents and major anti-inflammatory power to boot. Another nice perk is that it eases digestive gas and helps overcome nausea. Not only is cilantro an immune booster but it helps prevent urinary tract and fungal infections.
Enjoy your drink!
